Whoa, this looks amazing so far, very realistic! :O I never tried this reversed drawing technique, white on black! The amount of detail is just awesome! And it's an interesting question, I used to copy from photos a lot as well (e.g. my butterfly drawing)! I think I learned how to draw a lot of things when copying photos! :) It makes you think about what you see (all the shapes and colors...) and how you could transfer it to paper/canvas so that it looks as realistic as possible!

SammFoxx responds:

Aw thank u! :D You should give it a go, it has been a fun experience trying to work with the shading in this and for the first time ever my white pencil got more use than it could ever have haha

You do raise a valid point which comes from the 'practice makes perfect' ideology and how one could learn to understand concepts of shading and placement :) very cool, thanks for sharing your expression!

I love how bright and happy this piece is! I like the choice of colors, they give the right icy feeling to the whole scene! Maybe I'd darken the shadows of the log and the creature itself since the light shining from behind them is so intense, but otherwise, I have nothing more to say! :D Amazing work!

StarksNotDead responds:

Thank you very much for the detailed comment!:)
Well I also think that the fact that the commissioned character was blue-violet and snow shadows are usually blue-violet take away a lot of contrast from the piece, but nothing I could do about that x)

Newbie here welcoming a newbie! :D Seriously though, welcome! I think you did a great job on this and am happy that you decided to enter the contest! Seeing the number of different takes on the same piece is really cool...AND you created such an interesting backstory to it as well, I really like the idea of the souls floating around them! Also, it's very original with the fluorescent effect! Pretty nice work! :)

SammFoxx responds:

haha hi newbie, and thanks for the welcoming :D aw im glad you liked the piece and the backstory <3 I won't lie seeing the other entries did make me shy from entering but hey its always exciting to get feedback and learn from it. Let's keep in touch through insta! :D

Very majestic looking! I really like the colors and the texture of the brush :) Amazing piece!

EduardBey responds:

Thank you!

This looks amazing! I like how you made the underwater effect!

jiasenART responds:

Thanks a lot :)

Ahhh, I really like the simplicity of this one! I gotta say it made me tilt to the left, haha! :D Cool one!

Cyberdevil responds:

That seems to be an unintended side-effect! XD Thanks!

Hmm, an interesting piece, makes you think...wait, did you draw each "raindrop" separately?! :O

Cyberdevil responds:

I did indeed! It sure took some time. :)

I think that I like this version more than the one with the writings being black! You have a cool style of drawing, sketchy and messy, yet neat - every line seems to have its right place. Great illustration of an amazing idea, gave me a chuckle! :D

Cyberdevil responds:

Happy to hear it. :) I think my style was born out of an uncertainty I really have what it takes to make 'professional' art, that's become like a trademark type with time, as the only one I really practiced with... very much related to the program I use for these drawings too though, Flash, as it has only simple brushes and little surplus functionality. It does have the most important thing though: smoothing! :) Thanks again!

Another great and kind of a creepy one, too! Or maybe more chaotic than creepy...interesting nonetheless! Very clever use of lines once again! I like that with adding only a red color to the background you emphasized the feeling of chaos so well! Keep it up! :)

Cyberdevil responds:

Chaotic sounds about right... though hope there's at least a little creepy in there too, twas what I was going for. :) A lot of extra line work too, apart from the red. Thanks for the comment!

Whoa, I like this style a lot! Very expressive and dynamic way of using lines, it gives me the feeling of scattering bugs for some reason :D I could easily see a little animation of this! I like the creepiness and hints of madness in this colorful piece! Also, the variety of characters is pretty cool, very interesting!

Cyberdevil responds:

Haha yeah, insect inspirations and undertones are probably strong with this one. Glad you liked it, and many thanks for all the constructive comments! :)
